Fred Slezak broke into the business as a country dj at WCNW in 1969, also working in the news department and doing high school play-by-play. Fred became the 7-Midnight jock at WUBE from 1974 - 1976.

Fred returned to the news room in 1977 at the upstart (and short lived) WLWS, Stereo 96. That first staff included Hugh Lutton, Bob Lewis and later, Alan Mathews, Ed Douglas and Bill Henry(who later became a turn announcer on the Indy 500 network). Lots of talent there.

Fred was hired in the WSAI newsroom in 1979 and became news director in 1982 and stayed around through all the ownership and format changes until late 1997 when WINK changed format and moved Scott back to WLW and canned everyone else. During that time he also teamed with GM Jim Wood to broadcast a couple of seasons of UC football and basketball and hosted the coaches shows. As Fred states "Those WSAI years were the highlight of my career."

He hung on in 1998 to be the news sidekick with Bob Trumpy on the 1160 BOB morning show. "The money was bad, the signal was worse and we both bailed out at the begining of '99."

Since that time, Fred has managed the Bearcats Sports Digest at UC, had a couple of brief editors stints at WKRC and WCPO news, got involved in a failed .com venture and spent 5 years selling golf clubs. Fred is now working as a Locker Room/Grille Room Manager at Heritage Country Club in Mason, Ohio.
